gratitude in the cold

Ice crystals form along the plastic walls of the tunnels. The plastic sheeting becomes brittle in this cold, like a sheet of thin ice. It guards and withstands the brutality of the cold in order to protect what still grows inside.

The light shines differently in this cold. It is almost hesitant, shy. It sits lower, unable to warm the crisp air like it has done all season long. A sign for it also to rest. To allow the incoming cold season to relieve it from the powerful responsibility the light holds from spring through fall.

The farm is quiet. A restful and slow hibernation of the land and the life within. The beds are clean and a warm blanket of compost lies over the top, keeping the momentum of life and rejuvenation going at a slow, but steady pace.

The farm is mostly at rest. It is time for slowing down, honoring the changes in season, reflecting on the year, and expressing gratitude for all that made this cycle possible.

At the beginning of this month, we said goodbye to two members of our farm team as they go and pursue new adventures and dreams. I still have two beautiful souls to keep me company and keep the farm in its different state of beauty. I hold and send gratitude to all of you, Gracelyn, Mary, Jacee, and Dominique. Without your grace, this farm would not be where it is today.

To the land, we extend gratitude for giving us the opportunity to work with her once again. We are servants to her, nothing more. We are stewards and advocates, doing our best to nourish her and embody and embrace the elegance of her flow and provision.

To all of you, we send our deepest gratitude. You have all shown up to this farm in some meaningful way. Whether it be a dinner or a farm stand, your presence enriched and warmed our hearts. You gave us the energy and support to keep us out there everyday working the land and building a space for community.

This coming winter season holds some beautiful events and unique opportunities for our supportive community.

First is a special online shopping opportunity in advance of the Thanksgiving holiday. The online store has been updated and stocked. We will have produce, pasture-raised chickens, pantry specialty goods, and Gracie’s Farm merchandise all available for your Thanksgiving holiday. The store is open for orders until November 23rd, with pick-up available November 25th, 26th, and 27th from 10 am - 4 pm at Gracie’s Farm. 95 W 2100 S in Wanship. Store is found here

Second is the revival of Gracie’s Winter Market. The Farm will be open in December on Saturdays from 10 am to 2 pm for your holiday shopping needs. We will have whatever fresh produce we have available, as well as a feature of local foods and artisan products that will make a one stop shop for your gift list.

Please stay tuned for more special events coming your way through the winter. While we may be in rest and nourishment mode, we love visiting with our community and keeping connected with our supporters.

With so much gratitude,

Lynsey and the Gracie’s Farm Team
